If there's discussion at all, it really doesn't need to go any farther than "I play a Ridenour. I like the way it plays." Period. In an even, informative tone of voice, not a defensive whine. No reason to discuss price. No reason to discuss what it's made of. No reason to debate anything. Just play and find something else to talk about.
I've been playing for 60 years. Very rarely does someone I'm playing with ask me what clarinet I'm using. And, once I answer (it isn't a secret), the conversation goes in some different direction. No one I play with cares.
