The K serial numbers that started in the early 1950's were for Evette Schaeffers, not Buffet's. I would tend to believe the 1897 date. I assume the keywork is consistent with an instrument of that date. Distinct examples would be a wraparound register vent, and a single post for the left hand pinky keys of the lower joint.

As to value, I'm not sure what to suggest.
