Polycrystal mouthpieces

I am just wondering as to what makes polycrystal mouthpieces so special, other than being clear, of course haha. I've never played on one before, but I've seen various models from Pyne and other manufacturers. What are the pros and cons of these? Thank you!

In my opinion, and in a nutshell...

PROS: The Polycrystal has a good, responsive facing and is very reed friendly. The polycarbonate material is really tough stuff and pretty much immune to scuffs and bite marks. No tuning issues noted.

CONS: The voicing possibilities aren't in line with today's conventions of a characteristic clarinet sound. I find it tends to produce an unfocused, vaguely covered, and somewhat buzzy sound with most reeds on most clarinets.

OVERALL: A decent MP to get started with, but the Ridenour Encore and Fobes Debut are better. Seems to play best with Vandoren Traditional reeds.
