I have spent almost two years looking, and have finally pieced together, from three cases, a very nice red case for an Evette Schaeffer horn. It's the round corner style, covered in imitation leather and has the stitched, plastic edge binding and leather handle. I'm familiar with the zipper case covers for the later attaches, and the ones for the pouchette cases. Is there a zipper case that fits these classic, casemade (luggage style) boxes? Picture of similar case attached. Thanks. DS

Altieri makes custom case covers. I have that same case in black and bought a cover to protect it. Altieri is not cheap but mine has held up for my first year of my Master's degree lugging it around everywhere.
Just search Altieri case covers on google and it pops right up.
Best wishes!

Waht is wrong with the current case that you think you need a case cover? As I remember, those old Evette Schaefer cases are pretty sturdy.
Also, you consider getting a replacement case, you can get a soft sided Protec case and they are excellent for the price.

Nothing wrong with the current case and, in fact, that's the point. It's as near perfect as one of these old cases can be, and I would like very much to keep it that way, thus the cover. Not looking for a replacement, soft case, I want to use this one. I have a Buffet zipper cover for the later style attache of another horn. It's just too large for this case. I have looked at the Altieri bags. Looks like they are also designed for the later, larger cases, though they did say they'd make me one to order. Thanks for the responses. Still shopping!

ProTec make a shoulder bag for single cases, so see if your Buffet case will fit. I'm sure it will

Sadly the ProTec case is too small. The older cases are shorter in height, but over an inch wider across. Looking at some other options, but there are far more "gig bags" out there than case covers. Still searching.

I can get an old plastic B&H single case in a ProTec bag - the B&H case measures 355mm x 255mm x 115mm (14" x 10" x 4½").
I've got a similar Buffet case which came with my Eb clarinet that's the same size as the single Bb case which fits perfectly in the ProTec bag. the Buffet case is wider than the B&H case being 385mm wide (that's around 15¼").

I think I measured the case at about 15.5 inches wide this morning, so yes, exactly the issue. Just a little too wide.

The Buffet case fits perfectly in my ProTec bag, so not sure why you're having an issue with it,

The Protec case is 14.5" wide, left to right, inside. The later style, Buffet attache cases are about 13.5" wide, so that's fine. The less expensive case that seems to come with the later E11s is just over 13", so again, fine. However the early, luggage style cases, like I'm dealing with, are over 15" wide. They won't fit in the ProTec bag, if the advertised dimensions are correct. I do see your post about your E horn fitting. Just concerned this is going to be too snug.

I had the same issue; the older 60s-type cases are very wide. I ended up going with Altieri because they could make one for me custom. You simply send the measurements and they whip it right up. My case still looks brand new. Besides everyone commenting how huge my case is, it looks very nice.
Even if I wasn't worried about scratches, I still like my instruments in protective case covers; cases with latches (not so much zippers) can open if you drop them.

Sent Altieri my request for quote, but I'm sure it's going to be very pricey. Looking for alternatives in the "messenger bag" category now. That looks like it may be the answer. I'm like you, Betty, I want something protecting the protection! An answer will present itself. Chris, I did have an opportunity to try a ProTec case this evening. Turns out a friend uses one for both his Bb and his A. The red case fits, but it's very snug and just getting it past the zipper is going to chew up the plastic binding eventually. Very nice covers though. Thanks to all. DS

Unless ProTec have discontinued the carry bag and replaced it with a smaller one, then that is a shame. I have two of these bags and can get loads of stuff in them.

Chris, now you have thrown down the gauntlet. That is nothing like what I have been looking at from ProTec and indeed, when I spoke with someone there yesterday she told me the cases are only 14" wide ID! I cannot seem to find that on their site. I'll forward a picture to them, see what they come up with. Thanks very much. DS

That's annoying to say the least. Why do they do things like this when they already had something good?
Keep a look out as someone somewhere might still have some of these (now discontinued) bags in stock.

Exactly. I'm searching. Chris, if you have anything that indicates a model or product number, that would sure be appreciated. Lots of bags out there that will probably work, but most are much too complex. DS

Got it! For those looking, here's what I purchased:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A15GOPS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Absolutely a perfect fit. Easy to get the case inside, but not a ton of extra, loose space. Very well made, heavy weight material, nice strap, extra pockets and very affordable.
