Hi
My clarinet is Uebel's "classic".
I want to know whether I can replace the original barrel with "zoom barrel" of Paulus & Schuler.
Actually many websites are telling that the barrel was made for Buffet RC series.
If I can, what size of the barrel will be proper? (ex. following site)
http://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?bf=&sw=Paulus+%26+Schuler
Thank you in advance.

I don't know the specs of the Uebel Classic, but generally it's recommended that the barrel should have the same inner diameter as the upper end of the upper joint.
I think Thomann has only one diameter in stock, but if that one isn't suitable for you, you could ask Leitner & Kraus. They have a larger variety, or at least they had when I ordered from them.

One more thing, about the length. The length of the closed zoom barrel should be chosen according to the sharpest pitch level that you need. If that's the length of your current barrel (with no pull out), then the zoom barrel should have that same length.
Also be prepared that you need to "turn out" the zoom barrel more than you have to pull out a regular barrel, to achieve the same amount of flattening of the pitch. That's probably due to the "lost" volume between the tenon of the upper joint and the socket of a regular barrel, when pulled out.

I played around with the Paulus and Schuler barrel for a few minutes. It is definitely the best version of that sort of barrel and has its merits.
I'd start with the length of the LONGER barrel that came with your Classic. I can't seem to find any practical application for the shorter barrel at all. Of course that is based on what the barrels where with the Uebels a year or more ago. I haven't seen them up close since.
Personally I'd stick with the time honored practice of "pushing in" and "pulling out." This way you can order a custom barrel from Allan Segal with the exact bore dimension you need.
