Who is he (other than the new 2nd player in the Phila Orch.)? The only reference I can find for his name is a Philippine archbishop.

Where has he played?

Is his full name Socrates Villegas Pino, and he is from the National Conservatory in Mexico?

If so, he is fairly well represented on YouTube, playing Francais's Tema y Variazioni, Rossini Variations, a really challenging modern peice--a Sonata Tiberiu Olah that includes fast slap tones, and some Weber.

Pino seems like he can do just about anything on the clarinet that he has to. Reminds me a little of Burt Hara in his tonal conception but still has his own identity, of course. Very solid rhythmically, which is so important in an orchestra. Not afraid at all of the altissimo and plenty of technique to spare. And, yes, he has a real ping and nice focus in his sound.

If all you describe is true, it sounds like he may be only moving through. Sounds like a principal player waiting for his chance.

Possibly true! But, I wouldn't mind sitting under Ricardo for a few decades!
