Paquito' been a Rossi clarinet player for a long time. I remember a video where he explained he has three of them.
That dude is probably my ultimate influence when it comes to what technique and sound is love to have. Man, he can play!!!!

His cocobolo Rossi is very bright as far as tone. This one is very dark. Could he have switched to Backun? His ligature looks like a Vandoren Optimum.

I don't see a middle tenon ring/joint which leads me to believe it's still one of his rossi's. Plus the barrel is also the Rossi style.

That is a beautiful woody sound Paquito is getting. Could be a rosewood clarinet from Rossi. D'Rivera is also a good classical player. Listen on YouTube to
Carlos Guastavino Clarinet Sonata Paquito D'Rivera. (Sorry I can't get the direct URL to come up).

There's also a cd of his called "Music From Two Worlds" which has some great classical playing on it from him. All in all, still my favorite player.

I wasn't familiar with the Guastavino sonata, but it's nice music (and Paquito D'Rivera's performance is great too). University students often post questions here about what they should perform for their recitals, and this would be a good selection.

Gustavino's Rosita Iglesia is probably better known and more often played. The sonata would be a great piece for a university clarinetist with a fine sense of musical style. Getting the clarinet to float rhythmically above the piano with exactly the right pulsation and accent can be a challenge. The piece has a compound meter feel to it quite different from the usual baroque transcriptions, classical and romantic, modern and even jazz peices. It won't jell right if you try to play it like Bach, Mozart, Weber, or Stravisnky.

He seems to be a Vandoren artist, playing White Master reeds and an Optimum ligature. But what mouthpiece?
