Romie de Guise-Langlois, Poulenc Sonata Live
Author: Ken Shaw 2017

Here's an absolutely terrific live performance of the Poulenc Sonata by one of the best young players, Romie de Guise-Langlois. Except for a tiny fluff at the beginning, she hits everything exactly right. It won't be available for long (maybe only today), so get it quickly at http://www.chambermusicsociety.org/watchlisten/watchlive, beginning at 37:00.

I'm not sure what model clarinet she's playing. It has the low F correction mechanism. She also uses an adjustable barrel, which she tweaks from time to time.

According to her website she is a Yamaha artist.

I wasn't really that impressed with her performance and feel like she comes short often in her interpretation. In the slow part of the first, and throughout the second, I never understand why people don't play the 64ths as written. It takes a lot away from the character of those passages to slow down those notes; even if she were trying to play 32nd notes, they would still feel a bit early and slow.

A lot the 3rd movement is very good, though. I very much like the way she approaches the altissimo passages, everything is still very light and clear.

Thanks for sharing.
Romie's playing is so musical, she always finds a way to give direction and clarity to a line.

I've heard Romie live, and she is a fantastic player.

Gustibus, no; but interpretation is a different matter.
