Michael Lowenstern wants to record the Concert and Contest Collection for Bass Clarinet by Voxman - hasn't been done to date by anyone else.

Support his cause if you can, he has about $600 left to make the project a reality or it's a bust.

I'm already in. Let's hear it from the bass clarinet mafia out there.

Michael is not making any $ on this - its a labor of love. $ go to Pianist and the production costs.

This will be a free download or come with the book.
He said on the video about the free download.

As a Bass Clarinetist and music degree holder from The University of Iowa. I personally would love to see this finished.

It met goal, so will happen!

I didn't know till the student's lesson yesterday that a joint Bass student of me/Mike is who gave him the idea to do it.

Certainly a worthy objective, and long overdue. But I'm curious about something: he doesn't mention anything (that I noticed) about legal issues. Did Rubank have to give its approval, which I suppose they did? If any of the pieces are still under copyright, did the copyright holders get a vote? Or is the whole thing a nonissue?

Complete non-issue, nobody cares.

(Kidding - I have no idea what he is doing about that. I'd figure he's getting a compulsory license from Harry Fox)

But that's between him, and them.

The people at Rubank would have to be blithery-eyed bonkers not to give permission for a renowned bass clarinet player to advertise their collection.

The Voxman book is simply Bach pieces written out in treble clef, with occasional transposition to easier keys. None of that is copyrightable, even if Hymie put on a purported copyright notice.

Also, on Michael Lowenstern's site, he notes that he plays from the original version for cello, reading bass clef and letting it come out a step lower.
