Actually, there is a potential solution to the Chicago syndrome, through sharing. The Met appears to be a well spring...and Minnesota now has a surplus. The sharing would mitigate "familiarity breeds contempt." The Met could share Anthony McGill and Minnesota could share Burt Hara. Conductor and clarinetist Osmo Vanska could then play principal clarinet at Minnesota and his concertmaster could lead the orchestra...OR Vanska could conduct with his clarinet from the clarinet section while he wasn't playing.
