 Segal barrels
Author: ruben

I have a collection of barrels from just about every imaginable maker including barrels that have been made or tinkered with by people here in Paris from Buffet, Selmer and Leblanc. The prize possession of my collection I have recently received: a barrel by Dr. Segal, which I find quite amazing in every way. I think that part of the explanation for its quality is that it is so adapted to your equipment; in other words, your mouthpiece, instrument and even reed. Other makers claim to do this too, but if you were to research this.... They say you can't tell a book by its cover, but in this case, it is every bit as good as it looks, which is no mean compliment. I only hope that Dr. Segal will not have to work on my arteries next!

I'll second the endorsement of Allan's work, though I've never asked him to match a barrel to my reed. :)

Disclaimer - I sell Chedeville (R) hard rubber barrels with tapers designed by Dr. Segal.

I have purchased several wooden barrels from Allan and they are my go-to barrels when I am not demonstrating Chedeville barrels. I feel that he has brought his surgeon's perfection and scientific approach to making the best barrels that I have played on.

I've played two barrels by mr segal, although not designed for MY clarinet and mouthpiece. They played excellently. He knows his stuff.

I regularly play on one in symphony rehearsals & concerts.
If you need a barrel, Dr. Segal is the guy.

Absolutely a magnificent barrel (and he'll make them to the CSG 54-57 mm specs as well).

I just had Dr. Segal create a barrel for a Forte C clarinet with some tone and pitch issues. He sent me two beautiful, expertly crafted options that both improved the performance of the instrument significantly.

I chose one and couldn't be more pleased. With my setup now it plays like a professional horn with a beautiful tone, clarity and terrific pitch across the range of the instrument.

I highly recommend Dr. Segal's products (and, FWIW, the terrific Forte C clarinet as well!)

Slightly off topic, but i would love a Forte C clarinet- i tried bidding on one on a certain auction site but had my bids removed because i was apparently a foreign scammer.... I really wish these hadn't gone out of production.

Well, Donald, I like the one I have....much better now with Dr. Segal's barrel for it. In fact, I'll be getting rid of my other C clarinet because this one is so much better than it now.....

If you find your Forte C, I highly recommend a Segal barrel. The Forte is a nice horn, but even better with the improved, custom barrel!

Donald,
I often bid on clarinets and other stuff from the US, UK and Europe on that website. If it doesn't specifically say that bids from Australia are OK I contact the seller and check that they are happy to accept bids from Oz and if they will post the item to Oz. Most sellers are willing to do so, as long as they are aware of the situation, I've never had bids removed yet.
