I have a collection of barrels from just about every imaginable maker including barrels that have been made or tinkered with by people here in Paris from Buffet, Selmer and Leblanc. The prize possession of my collection I have recently received: a barrel by Dr. Segal, which I find quite amazing in every way. I think that part of the explanation for its quality is that it is so adapted to your equipment; in other words, your mouthpiece, instrument and even reed. Other makers claim to do this too, but if you were to research this.... They say you can't tell a book by its cover, but in this case, it is every bit as good as it looks, which is no mean compliment. I only hope that Dr. Segal will not have to work on my arteries next!
