Has anyone ever heard of the Freeman Clarinet? Freeman is the only thing marked on the instrument and the owner says he purchased and played this in 1960.

Harold Freeman was a well known clarinetist in New York, playing with the NBC and I believe the New York Phil. He also had some connection to the Chicago Symphony at some point. He imported clarinets from France and had his name applied to the instruments. A classic example of a "stencil" clarinet.

Yes, I still have and use my Freeman M-100 everyday. It was bought new in 1961 by my folks when I started begginers band. It has good tone and tuning. I use it with a 2RV and Harrison lig. Of the nine (playable) clarinets I have, it is still my favorite. The serial no. is 3543 if this will help you date yours since I know mine is no newer than '61.

A few early Freeman clarinets were Buffet R-13 stencils. They're marked something like "by Buffet" and the key guide for the trill keys goes around the top two keys. These are worth seeking out.

Most of the Freeman instruments on eBay are Pedler stencils. These have two guides for the top trill keys. One has only a single side and is just above the thumb hole. The other goes around just the top trill key. I've tried a couple of these and found them mediocre. They're just about worth the $100 or so they sell for.

Best regards.
