Eddie Palanker - My sister went to see the symphony last weekend. You played the Copland - Fanfare for the common man! Great fun piece to hear.

She said the orchestra did another piece; a parody as such, called Fanfare for the common woman! What the heck was that all about? I'll see if I can find a recording.

Perhaps it was one of Joan Tower's "Fanfares for the Uncommon Woman"? You can read about them here:

Here is what I think is probably No. 1 (or Part I, take your pick):

This is probably No. 4 (or Part IV):

All 5 were recorded on Koch International Classics but that CD is out of print.

I found the CD on Rhapsody so it's probably also on I-tunes. If the BSO did play Joan Tower, it's not really a parody or humerous that I can hear -- more like a response.

Best regards,
jnk

Jack got it right. It's written for the same instrumentation as Copland's but not nearly as good a piece. Although the title sounds like a parody the piece does not. ESP eddiesclarinet.com

That Tower Fanfare was used for Elsa L. Verdehr's retirement tribute - arrangement for Clarinet Choir.

I recorded it, and presented it to Elsa at a Masterclass she gave last year.
