I don't have a problem with people take take taking, though preferably nobody will come and just unload the whole table's contents into their bag. Some people need things, some people have things, and not everyone fits into both categories. Plus, I don't imagine this message will get to every attendee, so some might not think to bring things. (telling your friends should help the table's diversity, so get the word out!)
As far as I'm concerned, any place is a better place for my 7 tubes of cork grease, BG Super Revelation, reed rush, reed trimmer, Claricord neckstrap, mouthpiece caps, etc. than unused in a drawer or tossed in the garbage. And I'll buy a couple new boxes of reeds and some Doctor Slick for the school programs at the end if the remainders are scarce, so people shouldn't feel like they're depriving schools of equipment by taking something. (at the moment there's one planned recipient program, though if there's a lot of equipment left, I may find multiple to spread things out)
As for swabs, they can be cleaned easily enough if you're concerned about the ick factor. A trip through the washing machine inside a pillowcase works pretty well.
