A long nail or similar will do, you hang the clarinet on its thumb hole.

... but put some plastic tubing over or wrap the end of the nail with insulating tape to prevent it scratching the thumb tube.

Having seen quite a few former wall decorations for sale at flea markets and auctions, I don't like the whole idea of hanging a clarinet through the thumb hole. Eventually, the hole can distort. TGI Friday used to decorate with wind instruments. Sometimes the decorators would just drill a hole right through the body of an instrument and discard any keys that got in the way. Vintage saxophones ruined this way still turn up locally, along with clarinets with part of the bell sawn off so that the instrument would hang straight down the wall. I think that if a clarinet will be used as a wall decoration, it's much better to use a hangar that supports the weight solidly from the bottom of the bell, with an upper bracket around the barrel.

...I was under the impression that this was a student metal clarinet, so the danger of distorting is limited (provided one uses a plug of similar dimensions as the inner diameter of the thumb hole).
Then again, I'm all for clarinets being played rather than hung off walls. ;-)

Ben, you may be right about the type of plug. The damaged thumb holes I've seen are grooved at the top, as if the clarinet had hung from something narrow and metal, like a nail or a pegboard hook. With a wooden peg that fits snugly into the thumb hole, I'd be concerned about the clarinet popping right off it and falling on the floor, if someone slams a door, for instance.

Yup, I agree with you there! Always makes me sad to see those restaurant instruments hanged by the neck until dead or, worse, made into lamps. It wouldn't bother me so much to see a clarinet displayed as a decoration in a private home, as long as displaying doesn't involve butchering.

Our main music store has many clarinets, saxes, flutes, oboes, and brass instruments hanging from their store walls for display. Perhaps your local music mart could provide info for purchase. Next time I go to our store, I'll take a closer look and report back.
BTW, I have a few clarinets and an oboes hanging about the house for decorations and just use the tack in the thumb-hole for the clarinets. They are clarinets that, if they do suffer any damage from the tack--or from falling--there is no great loss. They do not play very good anyhow.......

I hate instrument lamps. What I have here is a Cundy-Bettoney 3 star metal clarinet that is unplayable, so I'd like to hang it in my room. But by hang I meant something more like the Hercules wall peg that someone had mentioned earlier. That way I can always just take it back down.
