A few months ago I posted that Phil Rovner has made a new ligature that I absolutely love for Bb clarinet. Well, the bad news is that I'm the only one to ever have one. It turned out that getting one of the parts he needed is so expensive that he would have to sell it for far too more than he wants too. It would be too expensive for the masses so it would not be profitable for him to produce. If you wish to try to match the quality you can buy his Star Series and get the Turbo Charger kit to go along with it. His website is - rovnerproducts.com There's something about that large metal piece on the reed side that does great things for me, it might or might not be as good for you. Sorry about that but i really love the one he made for me. NO you can't have it. ;-) ESP eddiesclarinet.com

Ed - were you just sharing a clarinet story with us---which of course is fine--or was there a question to answer or topic to discuss?
I'm NOT criticizing you. I just was interested if you needed help with something, or maybe just making a thread of "bound (pardon the pun) by bad ligature stories."

ThatPerfectReed: Through several other ligature threads individuals have asked Ed about the ligature that is now not in production. Essentially a PSA for interested individuals.

But hey, if you ever find a ligature you like better, you could always auction that one and market it as "The only one of its kind in the world."

I'm currently using a Rovner "Eddie Daniels" model. It has the nicest sound of any ligature I have (and I have quite a few). It really helps darken the sound, without muffling it. Anybody else like the Eddie Daniels model?

Walter it does help me with projection but I find that I personally get better center in the tone on your mouthpieces with either standard or traditional ligatures from BG and currently use gold plated traditional with good results.

I play a Rovner "Versa" which I gather is identical to the "Eddie Daniels" except made after the endorsement agreement ended. I rather like it too.

Walter, I have the Eddie Daniels II. I use it now, after giving up on the Bois and the Vandoren Klassik. I like the way the Daniels works for me.

I guess the Turbo charger works similar to a Mega Tone mouthpiece on trumpet.
Has anyone played the Platinum ligature?

I'm curious what effects people who use the Eddie Daniels ligature have found from the various "settings:" flaps over/under, no plate vs. various weights of plate.

Here's another vote for the Eddie Daniels. I have found that when I had the flaps out and no plate, the sound was more dampened. I folded the flaps under so just the metal plate contacts the reed. Better result IMO. I also use the thicker of the 2 plates in the slot.

Thanks for dashing my dreams!
I only found out about that ligature a few days ago when I was shopping for new equipment for my alto sax. Saw that, and decided I'd have to save up for that one for my clarinet...guess not!
I figured that it would be a very expensive ligature, but after my short experience with the Vandoren ligature (it was stolen!), I was very interested in the model.
But it's ok, I love my Equitone too much anyway.

Bad news for the Eddie Daniel lovers because Rovner will
Probably replace it with another model soon. It will be
similar but yet different. I don't know why or when.
I recently tried it, it is good but I like the "special" one better.
Don't shoot the messenger please. ESP

I thought the Eddie Daniels model was replaced with the "Versa"? Almost the same lig. but slightly different.

Mr. Kissinger,
Quite an apropos reference.....
Though, with the truth being that I had to look this one up myself, your ...um... hidden persuasion is still greatly appreciated by this reader.

He's going to change the Eddie Daniel's, well now the Versa, again!? Why change something that is so great? I love mine!

Ed, you may not be familiar with Vance Packard, but you are still demonstrating his theories.
And everybody..... Who cares? It's just a stupid ligature. Just use a rubber band

No Buster, I think a ligature does make a difference. Some more than others but can definitely make a difference in tone quality and response for most people. ESP

and I'd appreciate not being referred to as a dog. "No Buster, bad boy. bad boy."
I was making a reference to an academic writing that Mr. Kissinger enlightened me to; followed by a sarcastic remark that was in line with the points contained therein---- also loosely illustrated by these ligature threads. That's all.
FWIW I have made some ligatures, so I am somewhat familiar with the resultant effects that can/cannot be elicited.
Respectfully,
Jason
