Ricardo, or not.....it really isn't so much about the teacher as it is about the student.

True, but the teacher can make the student with his/her knowledge, and inspiration.

Ricardo has accepted the principal position in New York, so he certainly won't be able to teach full time at Curtis. Or am I misinformed?

Julie Baker was the principal flute teacher at Curtis for many years while playing in the NY PHIL.

Yes, DB, but what I'm say'n is that a good student with an average teacher will do better EVERY TIME than a bad student and great teacher. Like the ole saying, "you can make silk out of a sows ear".

Sorry, but how is telling Greg that it isn't the teacher but the student who is important, or for the matter, that Curtis is a great school anyway, pertain in anyway to the thread, or his question? It seems quite unhelpful to comment this way. . .

I don't actually have any useful information about Ricardo, although I do think a great teacher is incredibly important

The most obvious answer to the original question is that Curtis already has a clarinet teacher, Donald Montanaro, retired associate principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra. I haven't heard of any stirrings that he's planning to retire from teaching there.

According to a press release by Curtis, Ricardo has been appointed to the clarinet faculty there, in addition to Montanaro.

Is there an online source for the release?

Ricardo has been teaching at Curtis, but that would be for Chamber groups.

That's all that I'm aware of.

I stand corrected. Morales is indeed listed on the faculty as "Clarinet, Chamber Music (Woodwinds)" as is Montanaro.

I just had dinner with Ricardo this past weekend, I was one of his teachers. He has NOT accepted the NY position yet. He might, he might not. It should be settled within a few week I think. He has been teaching chamber music at Curtis but I don't think he teaches lessons yet. I meant to ask him and I forgot. I can say that he would have been a great player if he studied with Joe Schmo. Yes a teacher is important of course but if your son can get into Curtis, go. Doesn't matter who teachers there, he will be studying with a professional clarinet player and teacher. Good luck to getting in anyway, they usually only take one. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com
