Both are intermediate models, does a Noblet play with the same ease in the upper register as the Yamaha, regardless of the single register? Do they play relatively the same?

I've tried one Yammie (their current model) and many Noblets. The one Yamaha played well in the clarion, few if any of the Noblets did. That's just one data point for you.

I've played 4 or 5 wooden noblets and 1 Yamaha. The noblets played easily in the upper registers, the Yamaha was stuffy. The intonation on the Noblets was hit and miss, the 1 yamaha was iffy on some notes, but good on most. I would say the keywork is much more comfortable in the yamaha.

Check the intonation with a tuner and pick the one that tunes the best. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

I've played a brand new 221II and it was okay but not fantastic. I had an easier time playing it in the upper register than an older Noblet (and a few different Vitos).

Interesting, how do the Noblet compare to their pro model Leblanc counterparts?

The Noblet is basically identical to the Leblancs (other than the 430 with its double register vent mechanism) except that the Noblet has a corked-tenon neck rather than a metal sleeve neck, and their register mechanisms appear somewhat different although they operate about the same.
