Ive looked but I cant find an answer on this. I have my school's Buffet bass and I'm trying to figure out how old it is. It's keyed only to Low E so it can't be too new. Serial number is:
B336742L
If anyone could find out how old it is, I'd appreciate it.

I copied the serial number withouth letters into the serch box of the Buffet site.
Result is:
Brand : Buffet Crampon
Instrument : BC 1231.AG
Serial number : 336742
Year of manufacturing : 15/12/1990
Maybe that's it. Instruments can be ordered with custom keywork nowdays too, so low Eb is not a sign of age.

The Buffet is keyed to Low E, not Low Eb. Thats why I assumed it was old, because I thought low Eb started showing up a long time ago.

A 1231 is a soprano R13 A clarinet, not a bass.
Is your school's bass clarinet wood or plastic?
Best regards,
jnk

Has to be pre-1040's; I don't think Buffet made a low E bass clarinet after the WWII.

Also, the Bass clarinet itself does not actually have the Buffet logo on it. It seems to be unmarked. The bell however has it. Maybe it's a different bass clarinet with a Buffet bell?
