Old Conn w/ wraparound register key

So......

There's this old Conn clarinet that this guy is saying is from '57.

Hard rubber, old looking case (looks alot older than '57), plus the clarinet has the wrap around register key.

He can't find the model number ending in N, just this: B66082L

They couldn't have use the wrap around key this late, right? I'm just curious, I like to fix up old clarinets and this one is cheap.

thanks!

1857, maybe. I had an old Conn from my father which he bought in 1937 or 38. It had the straight register key.

1921-1922 per Conn-Selmer. The wraparound register key was used on some boehm-system horns from the late C19th til the early 1920s. It was much more common on Alberts and is still found (in modified form) on Oehlers.

I'd guess 1920's. The B and L in the serial # mean Bb and L pitch.

Well I bought the thing, its hard rubber, it was only $50 shipped which was maybe too much but I never get to work on the old Conns, what the heck?

Maybe it'll turn out to be an okay player, it has the original case too!

I think you'll find it a decent enough horn once it's fixed up. BTW is it 6 or 7 rings?

Its 7 rings. I have a thing for the wrap around register key, whether or not is Albert or Boehm. The only old Conn clarinet I've touched was a bass clarinet, 482N.

It was good. This was before they farmed things out to France. I LOVE old Conn saxophones, why not give the clarinets a try!

Can you post a picture or two?

Seven rings and a wrap around register sounds interesting.

I stand corrected, it was late when I was typing. It is in fact the standard 6 ring 17 key setup.

Yep, right around 1920 based on that serial number. I have one slightly later that is an Albert system with some additional keys that I had repadded. It plays well and with a good mouthpiece sounds nice. There should be some eagle stamps on the upper joint and bell.
