 Cleaning Your Reed Case
Author: SantiandCo

I bought my reed case approximately a half a year ago. It seems that my reeds have been getting moldy as a result of using some individual reeds too much at marching band. I believe it is long past due, that I should clean my reed case. The problem is I don't know how. When i bought it it came with specific instructions on how to do it unfortunately i threw the instructions away. I have a vandoren reed case that can hold up to 4 reeds. This is a link to it http://www.vandoren.fr/en/accessories.html
I'm afraid of simply running water in it in fear that it might damage the "charcoal" cartridge inside of it. Someone please help me.

Might take some encouraging, but the cartridge is removable.

It may be an issue with the design. I have had many reeds getting moldy in that case. Consequently I don't use it. I think that the Reed Mate works better.

Pull it apart...... It does come apart pretty easily, and then soap and water. Heat the tube with a hair dryer. You can also leave the top off of it and use it like that.

Do you peeps dry your reeds off after playing them, or just put them straight from mouthpiece to case?

Quick rinse in sink and dry on pants.

I wipe it off and if time permits I will let it air dry for a few minutes before putting it away. That Vandoren case is the only case that I have consistently had problems with, and I had used MANY different cases.

1/3 bleach to 2/3 of water should kill the mold. I surely would play those reeds. This is a basic formula to get rid of mold.
