I can't find this sheet music form the usual suspects. Anyone know where to get the sheet music for this?

Some Googling turned up an excerpt from a book on Poulenc by Carl Schmidt that had a list of Poulenc's works. This catalog indicated that the work was published by Eschig in 1948.

Eschig is now part of DSE (for Durand, Salabert, Eschig). The following link will take you to a list of their catalogs:

http://www.durand-salabert-eschig.com/english/catalogues.php

Here you can download a catalog of Poulenc's works. Unfortunately, this catalog lists L'Invitation au Château as unpublished (inédit). A starting point might be to contact DSE to see if they have the work and would do a print-on-demand.

Another option, if the work was indeed published in 1948 but is now out-of-print, would be to try inter-library loan.

Best regards,
jnk

Try http://www.drake.edu/artsci/Music_Dept/recandpub/playingthrough.html.

It's been recorded several times, so you might get in touch with the performers.

As I understand it, L'Invitation au Château is rental only and not cheap (I looked into it for my chamber festival this past June).
I think Ken is right, that to get the parts you will have to be lucky enough to meet someone who photocopied the parts while out on rental and who is willing to lend them to you.
But of course nobody will have done that since it is not wholly legal :)

On the other hand, if you want to talk ethics and not legalities, you might find someone who finds it repugnant that quality chamber music is held for ransom in this fashion (rental-only). Sometimes these people feel they are liberating hostages by sharing copies of rental-only chamber pieces.
I have had brief, furtive encounters with these chamber music "Robin Hoods" but, being a performer and presenter, I cannot risk performing or programming these liberated gems.
Sometimes the rental fee on a piece of chamber music is greater than the concert's entire budget! The result is that good chamber music (like L'Invitation au Château) is rarely played in concert.
