 Basset Clarinet Extension
Author: ddavani

Hello Everyone,
I have been considering buying a basset joint extension for an A clarinet. The prices are high and I don't want to make a mistake in buying. Can anyone tell me the best brand for an extension and/or good pricing on one of them?
Much appreciated.

What make is your A clarinet?

Here's a few basset lower joints:

I have a Buffet R-13 prestige with a Backun #9 bell. Thank's for the links!

Dave - I had a basset lower joint conversion
made by Steve Fox. I sent him an R13 A clarinet lower joint and he converted it into the basset extension.
It fit well onto the upper joint of my R13 Prestige A clarinet. Two benefits of the "conversion" method (as opposed to buying a complete basset clarinet) are:
1) it is less expensive
2) you retain the familiar feel and pitch
of your existing upper joint.

Hi Simon,
I was just thinking after looking at Ridenour's website that since his entire basset clarinet is $1,600, it would be worth getting since he makes very good instruments. I was wondering though, if the instrument is hard rubber, how the playing would be, would you or anyone else know how it plays.
Thanks,
