 Ensemble repertoire

Hello everyone, I am a saxophone player by profession but have found a lot of assistance from this site over the past few years. I work at a summer program were our main focus is on wind ensemble and jazz groups. We have recently started a chamber music spin-off from the ensemble and I would love to start building up a library of works for our ensembles. I have been polling my clarinet associates and would like to question the clarinet BBoard about chambers works for clarinet quartets, both with bass clarinet and 4 Bbs, and perhaps trios. Our students are all rising juniors and seniors and talents range from first chair all-state to intermediates. I would love to have works that high school potential music professionals should know, modern works, and works that are easily accessible for everyday ensemble development as well. If there are other resources to check out, please let me know. Thanks!

One resource you should definitely check out is the Clarinet Institute in Los Angeles (http://www.clarinetinstitute.com/).

They have over 500 free PDFs of solos, duets, trios, quartets and chamber music for download, or you can order a CD with all of them on it for $10.00. Our little clarinet choir (well, it's mostly a trio, sometimes a quartet, but we have BIG dreams!) has found a lot to work with in this collection.

I've also download interesting music from imslp.org and free-scores.com.

I'm one of the performers at the clarinet Institute of LA. I'm sure they must have a few pieces, if not you can most likely put together an arrangement.

The Hummel and Kummer trios are good literature.

Lucien Calliet wrote clarinet ensembles, one in particular that is rather difficult - the Fantasie. I'm pretty sure it's for quartet.

You may also be interested in having your woodwind students play in mixed ensembles.
