I just have a quick question about the Sonatina: When it says 8 minutes for the length, is that just the first movement, the Theme and Variations, or does that refer to the entire work? I don't have the second movement, so I can't check.
8 minutes seems long, because when I play it a little under tempo it comes in at around 7.
Thanks!

Yes, as GBK said but that's assuming you play the mm markings indicated. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

On Larry Comb's recording (which I highly recommend), the first mvt. is 6 minutes and 14 seconds long, and the second mvt. is 3 minutes and 9 seconds long, for what it's worth.

Larry Combs recorded it before the age of steroids.
I believe the world record for the Sonatina was set last year in Vancouver but the contestant did not pass the doping test and was subsequently disqualified.
A sub 4 minute performance may be humanly possible - just hasn't been done yet.

You're right, Dileep... Who needs musicality when you can just play it fast?

Thanks everyone! I'm going to be getting Combs' recording in the next few days- my teacher has it, but she just moved to a new house in the past two weeks so it's packed up in a box somewhere.
