 Clarinet Quartet Must-Haves
Author: DAVE

I am planning on getting some music for clarinet quartet and don't really know where to start. I am looking for recommendations, any style and any difficulty. The only one I really know is the Uhl, which I have never played, but remember liking. So please list some of your favorites!

Thanks!

'Caprice for Clarinets', by Clare Grundman
'Mixed Bag of Boogie', by Graham Lyons
'City Scenes', by Terence J. Thompson, pub. Studio Music Company

All these are intermediate level and excellent entertainment.

That's my favorite, too. Three of my friends and I played this for contest in high school.

I found a video of this piece on YouTube. It's a student ensemble, so it's not pro quality, but it will give you a good idea of what the piece sounds like (very pretty modernistic harmony). This quartet uses a bass clarinet for the bottom voice (which sounds very nice), but you don't have to have a bass to play this piece--we didn't and managed to pull it off just fine. It's scored for 4 Bb soprano clarinets (if memory serves).
