Time again for our our community orchestra to have a taste of democracy. Every couple of years we get to vote on one piece to be played at some point during the upcoming season. The vote is a few months off, but I want to start shamelessly lobbying now, this may well include bribes, empty promises, and other shady back room deals.
I'm thinking Tchaikovsky 5, but other suggestions from you my friends are MOST welcome...The only stipulation is that it be a great part for 1st and 2nd.

Mahler symphonies have good parts for all clarinets, Berlioz Symphony Fantastique.
Although Tchaik 5 may be my personal favorite.

I've seriously thought about the Mahler symphonies, but even thought they think they are, I'm not sure our strings or brass are up to it!

I will check all these out of the local library if they have them. I am probably the most ignorant here when it comes to clarinet music; hopefully, I am better at overhauling the instrument. From the library I got The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing by David Pino and read about embouchure formation (someday I want to play a chromatic scale to test for tuning). Anyway when I tried the mouthpiece and barrel alone, one of my Australian Shepherds ran to the end of the house while the other came right up to me, looked me in the eye and howled.

Shostakovich 9 has great parts for both clarinets (though it's much more fun if you're on first). Debussy Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, R-K Cappricio Espagnol, Mendelssohn 3 or 4, Brahms 4, Rach. 2 are all good choices as well.

How is Scheherezade for the clarinets, anyway? I've studied the first clarinet solos, of course, and in our next concert tour my youth orchestra is playing it, but I'm playing second clarinet. I know there's that solo in the first movement, but how does the second part stand up to the first? (Off topic, I know, but someone did mention the piece.)

It's one of the main 2nd parts in the literature - really great. Lots and lots and lots of 2nd clarinet in that piece.

Mendhelssohn has great parts for both firsts and seconds... as far as I'm aware. Italian Symphony or Midsummer Night's dream.
Other suggestions: Mahler 1 is a personal favourite... you will need 9 horns though
Oh and, you mentioned your strings, but... Don Juan?
I absolutely adore the Struass Serenade. That was one of my first experience with serious chamber music... if you could really consider it as such... but it is a lovely piece.

I forgot the Britten Young Persons Guide, great two clarinet solo. Most of the pieces mentioned above are great pieces with really good clarinet parts and even though the second parts are good most of those mentioned are not EXPOSED 2nd parts or equal duets. An example is the Ravel Capriccio Espanol, great clarinet part but the 2nd is not really heard, it's all in the first clarinet. Sorry about that. ESP

Scheherazade for sure. I just performance it as principal clarinetist and I'd love to go back again and play it as the second clarinetist.

I'm almost always on bass clarinet in orchestra, but last year got to play 2nd clarinet in Stravinsky's Firebird and it seemed that my part was nearly as much fun as the 1st clarinet part.
