Practice at MINIMUM 2 hours a day. Tape your audition material two times a every day and listen to it after your practice session. Listen to recordings of other players for an hour- at least 3 different recordings of your audition material and other pieces by the same composers. Persevere.

Enjoy the music as you play it.

1. Do *exactly* what the the instructions say. If you're told to start at measure 28, but the solo doesn't start until measure 30, you lose points if you don't play the meaningless notes in measure 28.

2. Count like crazy, and even harder during rests. Lots of points are lost when you jump an entrance after a rest. More points are lost for inaccurate rhythm than anything else.

3. Slow and accurate is *much* better than fast and sloppy. If they want you to play something faster, they'll ask, and you'll have the advantage of having just played through the passage.

4. Know your scales and arpeggios cold through at least 4 flats and sharps, and preferably all of them. Be able to play any scale if asked, up and down, major, melodic and harmonic minor and in thirds, plus chromatic and diminished sevenths.

Good luck, and let us know how you do.

Don't freak out and forget everything in a flash like I did once. Boy did I feel terrible about that.
