You all did so well in helping me locate and purchase a Mendelssohn piece, perhaps you can help again.
First thing this morning, CBC Radio 2 played a bubbly piece for clarinet and piano named Canzonette, by Gabriel Pierne. It sounds like a "candy" piece, great for an encore or as part of a more serious program. I've done a search for the sheet music, and all that comes up are either recordings or program listings.
Any idea where I could buy the sheet music for this piece?

I love this piece too. I got the music off the shelf in a shop in London but as far as I'm aware it is fairly readily available - may be try Amazon or something similar. However if all else fails and you want it badly enough there's always June Emerson in Ampleforth, North Yorkshire - I've always found them very speedy and reliable, although of course I'm in the UK. If all else fails and you're willing to buy the whole collection, the piece is included in Sixteen Grands Solos de Concert (the language mix is the Publisher's, not mine) for Clarinet and Piano complied by Daniel Bonade and published by Southern Music Company.

What you want is "Concert and Contest Collection for Bb Clarinet, edited by H. Voxman." Medium-Medium Easy pieces, including Canzonetta by Pierne.
Comes with a piano score too. Should be about $6.95 US.
Most full-service music stores should have it. Rubank is the publisher.

It is a delightful piece. Be sure to find the old Cahuzac recording. He plays it with a character, taste and style that I have not heard in other recordings.

Be it as it may, I've used this piece in a recital and the audience reaction was much more enthusiastic than some of the standard piano/clarinet fare which usually goes over the head of the average (non-professional) listener.
A piece doesn't always have to be college/graduate level for the common, casual listener to find something tuneful and memorable to enjoy.

Nice professional piece as well.
Similar to a Kreisler bon bon, not many can actually play this piece well - with the grace and finesse to bring it off as the truly fine work it really is.
Should be easy to find as it is almost all collections for clarinet.

I second GBK and Dileep. It's a great piece anytime, not just for Junior High School.
There are a number of lovely YouTube videos of conservatory and professional players performing Canzonetta, including Pascual Martinez-Forteza of the NYPhil. And, yes, the Cahuzac recording is a gem.

I dont know if an explanation is necessary-aesthetically I just really hate the piece.
there are other pieces of that ilk that I enjoy playing, teaching, and listening to much more than the Pierne. Cahuzac wrote a bunch, as did Jean-Jean, any other piece that can be found in the Bonade book.
I know a lot of people think it is cute, fun, bubbly, whimsical, etc- to me, 'yuck' is the best word to describe it.

Salzo, it's OK to not like it! There are some pieces that sour my hot cocoa, too (usually they involve harpsicords). There's a picture in every issue of the Clarinet magazine that I can't bear to see.... why? I don't have an idea. Must be an unconcious remembrance of previous experiences.
