Wow, 1% make it in jazz, that's a lot better than classical for clarinet players, at least for symphony hopefuls. What a great profession if you can make it, and than many of those are not happy doing what they do. I love it though. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

My guess would be that the salary figures indicate how much a music major makes at whatever job they end up doing, such as accounting or TV/VCR repair.

Survey of salaries is for people possessing a Bachelor's degree only, and "may be skewed toward large universities;" probably not the most accurate survey as far as musicians are concerned.
At any rate, I wasn't trying to resurrect the "it's tough to get a gig" thread. The article is meant to be humorous.
