I was telling a friend about a youtube video that was discussed and laughed at a while ago, and she would like to see it for a good laugh. In case you haven't already guessed, it's that "instructional" video, where idiot demonstrates different "styles" of playing, such as "marching" or "Dixie." I can't remember the name of it, though, or what thread it was on, so if someone could post a link that would be much appreciated!

These 'Expert Village' videos are extremely insulting to those of us that have worked so hard and sacrificed a lot for our art. Surely education vids such as these should feature 'expert' professionals.

Mitch Kaplan actually has a fairly impressive teaching, writing and performing resume:

I'm sorry GBK,
A resume is one thing but he really shouldn't have put those videos on Youtube. I'm very open minded and will consider most things but this...
I have 12/13 year old students that have a much better concept of clarinet playing than this person, infact I have an 8 year old with a better sound than that.
Anyone can write what they like on a resume but if they don't have the goods to back that up then there is bound to be critisicm.

Now come on...be nice...if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all!!!
So make one yourself and do better instead of saying bad it is...
Had a clarinet teacher many years ago and he said there is good in everything and sometimes its harder to see but it depends on how you look at it.
So I wait to see your You-tube and will say what I like about it rather than what I don't.

dmfett,
That's a fair comment. The problem is I really don't have time to make a Youtube video as I have far to much repertoire to practise and concerts to do as well as my teaching. Maybe one day...
Perhaps you should do one?

All the more reason why the United Nations should enforce sanctions on countries who allow this kind of playing to be heard within their borders.

Just an update -
I heard from Mitch Kaplan, the clarinet player in the Expert Village videos.
He has read this thread, but (for now) has declined to post on the bulletin board.
If anyone wants to contact Mitch, his email address is listed on his resume:
