 ?faulty new cordier trimmer

Hi. Would appreciate your expertise with this please.
Just bought a new cordier reed trimmer for Bb clarinet (bought over web) and not sure if it's faulty, as never used one before.
The pin that secures the springy clamp (which fixes the base of the reed to the device) easily falls out. Is this normal? I could glue it in if not.
Thank you :)

Or remove the clamp entirely. I actually took those clamps off my Cordiers years ago and hold the reed with my thumb. It's faster and allows me more control in quickly positioning the reed.

Yup, get rid of the holder.
