 Old Bundy identification

Today my friend showed me her father's old clarinet, that hasn't been played for a while. It's obviously quite old, Bundy, and wooden. It has an articulated G#/C# trill key (at least that's what I think it is...) and is stamped G.H. Bundy and Paris on all the joints. The case appears to be original, and from what my friend said I think it is. It has two barrels, with one being stored loose in a barrel-shaped bit in the case, and the other one attached to the upper joint. It's a very nice clarinet, high quality, probably professional, but I'm puzzled as to the age of it. The serial number is 601, and I haven't been able to find anything out about it! Anyone heard of it?

Are you sure it's G.H. Bundy and not G.M. Bundy?

It might be. It was very hard to see, and the writing was very stylized.

Could someone post a picture of an articulated C#-G# trill key mechanism thingy? I've never actually seen one, but I can't imagine what else it could possibly be on this clarinet.

I realize the one in the ad does not have the articulated G# but I believe your clarinet is one of the Paris Bundys that were made during that time period which would have been around 1930.

If you have the articulated model there would be a hole through the center tenon.

Yes, there is a hole in the center tenon. Alright, 1930s. My friend will be happy to know that. Are there any serial number charts for those?

There are clarinets just marked G M Bundy Paris, with Sponsored by Selmer on the bell. All three of mine are like that. The ad shown earlier in this thread has them marked Fabrique par H Selmer. I've seen a Selmer Paris catalog where the Bundy Paris clarinets were marked with the Geo M Bundy signature.

It would probably be possible to construct a timeline for the various markings, but I'd guess a reliable dating for Bundy Paris serial numbers is not only not available now, but will never exist. Still, it was a relatively short-lived thing, so your friend's clarinet is from either the 1920s or 1930s. Later there's only Bundy USA.
