I will be in England next week on tour with my contemporary ensemble, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne.
We are in Liverpool from Nov 17th to Nov 21st.
1) Are there any good sheet music stores in Liverpool?
2) Is there a woodwind store in Liverpool which rents bass clarinets?
3) Is there a woodwind store in Huddersfield which rents bass clarinets?

Hi Simon,
Re bass clarinets, try contacting Kath Lacy, she is the principal bass with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. I'm not sure about sheet music but I'm sure there will be one or two. There are plenty of good bars in Liverpool, mainly near Liverpool Lime Street Station.

If you google music shops in Liverpool you'll get a whole host of stuff.

Huddersfield has only one music shop Dolphin Music (formerly Woods Music) It always used to be pretty well stocked with standard sheet music because of the University Music Dept. I haven't been there since it became Dolphin, and don't know if they do rental. It always used to be a real old-school family run store- stuck in a bit of a time warp! I suspect if they do do rental it will be your bog standard fairly basic bass!!!

One other suggestion for sheet music if you have time to travel some way - you could try visiting June Emerson's in Ampleforth, Yorkshire - this is a publishing/retail operation which started out doing mainly mail order but does accept personal callers too - they advise you to contact them in advance to check they will be around when you are planning to go. In terms of stock, though, if they haven't got, there probably isn't a copy in the country.
