Sad news dear friends of Jimmy Yan:
We lost Jimmy, one of this county's greatest repairmen and human beings, on August 16th, 2008. He died peacefully at home with his wife at his side. He had been suffering with Cancer for some time.
His family had a private funeral, and wishes no flowers or gifts, or even condolence cards be sent to honor Jimmy. They are a very private family and wish to grieve his passing alone, as he had wished.
I believe, we who new and loved Jimmy for so many years, will do something in the way of a Memorial Concert in his honor at an appropriate time.
For now, there is great sadness and loss for many of us here in NYC and around the country. We have lost a truly great man, a friend, and an irreplaceable soul.

Jimmy was a good friend and will be greatly missed. He was extraordinarily talented in technical terms but was helpful and humble and would offer help whenever needed to whomever he could. He took me under his wing as a fledgling entrepreneur and gave me sage advice for years about the woodwind community that he knew so well.

Dear All!
I share the saddness you all feel. For me, this is terrible news. Jimmy was one of the best persons I ever met. He was always there for me, like a father. He always encouraged me when I was down and was like my home away from home. I am incredibly sad to hear he died from cancer, as he never revealed to me the real reason for his sickness.
Please let me know if you plan to hold a concert in his memory. I will do the best to contribute from Israel.
If anyone speaks with his family, please send them my sincere condolences.
May his soul rest in peace.

Incredibly terrible news indeed. I only met him once, in 2005 when he serviced my Signature, but once was enough to make me realize how skilled he was at his craft as well as how welcoming he was as a person. Jimmy was a New York City fixture that will never ever be matched or replaced.

JJM,
My sincere sympathy on the loss of your dear friend. I knew Jimmy very well and had a lot of work done at the tiny little shop he had for many years. He always spoke of you fondly and we had many a good laugh at your expense. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and can only say thank you to him for all the wonderful years of work, jokes and stories he shared with me. Thanks for passing on the news, I know many of us in Boston had been wondering for quite some time now.

I read this news with great sadness. Jimmy Yan was a marvelous clarinet technician/artist who has kept my instruments in wonderful condition since I first met him at Roberto's around 1991, and later in his personal shop on West 54th Street.
He was a fine man and will be greatly missed; my condolences to his family.

Very sad news. I remember his kindness, intelligence, humor and care and will miss him a lot.

Dear Friends of Jimmy.
At this point, it looks like we'll do a Memorial Concert for Jimmy Yan on the first anniversary of his passing, August 16, 2009.
Much will go into the planning, and Jimmy's family needs time to heal. Many of us here felt it was best to have the concert at the proper later date. I'll keep all of you posted here on the BBoard with future details.
Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. I'm sure Jimmy would have been thrilled. I'll let the family see all of these heartfelt posts when the time is right.

Thank you, John, for letting us all know about this. Jimmy was a master of his craft and a first-rate human being. I guess they needed a clarinet technician in the heavens.
