I recently received replies to inquires regarding the need for soft-side, light cases for bass and soprano clarinets from Bam and Reunion Blues. Bam replied that they will soon be introducing a "high tech" low C bass clarinet case. RB has some case covers for existing clarinet cases on the drawing board but is considering introducing an entire line of gig bags "sometime in the (distant) future". Production may be expedited if more emails were received from the clarinet community :>)

I use a Wiseman bass clarinet case, It’s a little pricey but a great case and I don’t need a cover for it. Mine is a case made for a single clarinet as well as the bass clarinet but I don’t use it for that, I like to carry my clarinets in my double case. I do carry a portable collapsible bass clarinet stand that I had custom made as well as all kinds of “junk” I like to have with me. You can get it made for two clarinets and bass clarinet and I believe even for three. In that case you might need to hire someone to help you carry it. The basic case is more than sufficient for my needs, it’s easy to carry and not too heavy. With s thin piece of foam under the lower joint nothing even budges once it’s in my case. My friend who teaches at UW-Madison also uses a Wiseman for his bass (and assorted weird gear). They are very nice and I, too, would buy one if they were not soooo expensive--model A smaller low C bass clarinet model currently on sale for a little over $1000. I would expect the new Bam "tech" or "future" Reunion Blues clarinet bags (great sax models, btw) to be much more affordable. Just wanted to let everyone know that they are in the works.
Ed, what is your collapsable bass stand like and who made it? I've got a nice K&M stand but its heavy and rather awkward to carry, even in a sports bag slung on my back.

William, I had it made many years ago by my then repairman, since passed away. I bought a small snare drum tripod and he added a 4th leg with a cup for the peg to sit in and at the top of the piece that held the snare he welded a C cup so the body of the bass leans on it safely. It’s light, folds up and fits in my Wiseman. When I leave it during the breaks I wrap my swab around it so it can’t slip out if someone knocks it. If you decide to make one you have to find a small light folding tripod. Gads, I can’t believe the Wiseman is over a thousand dollars now, but then there’s the exchange rate. I don't have a Wiseman yet...I want one. Despite the price (and exchange rate which is going to kill me in Ireland next week) the Wiseman products are guaranteed for life.
That's a great commitment from that company.

I use the K&M bass cl/bassoon stand. What I did was to take the plastic end of a tube mailer that you can get at Kinkos and put it into the end of the stand. It should fit snug and will not move. This really works with using a peg on bass cl. Now for carrying the stand I use a soft trumpet gig bag. This will also hold my clarinet pegs and other important junk. I use a ProTek single trumpet bag.

I recently emailed for the price on a Wiseman double case (for Bb and A clarinet). Ed warned they are "a little pricey." I'll say! To the tune of 450 pounds! That's $897!!!
I'm sure they are a fantastic investment for the financially willing, but they're a bit out of my price range. (Remember I was looking at bam cases in another post) Just an FYI for those who aren't sure how expensive they are.

The Wiseman has the advantage of being smaller than those sqaure stock cases of low C bass clarinet, but its main advantage is that it holds your bass and soprano (even two sopranos) together. I wasn't sure about it, but then WW&BW wanted to get rid of it so they had a good price, plus 20% off of everything, so I just bought it there. It's really good and so much better than carrying two cases and that bulky bass clarinet case. It only has two disadvantages which are not a big deal IMO. It is a little loud when you open it. Sometimes (doesn't happen often) I arrive somewhere and I wait until I open the case. Also, it looks a little posh, especially the inside, which I don't like but tolerate for the many advantages.
