I have more good news for you medimauro, I also studied with Alberto Luconi and the U of M in the early 1960's, just before he retired. And also knew Fred Ormand from our Interlochen days together in the 1950's, but that's another story.
I have many stories about your great Uncle Alberto, so please call me anytime on my cell or home phone, and I can go into great detail on stories about him.
For a quick one:
He always called me "aMoses", I guess he thought it sounded Italian. I was thrilled that he remembered my name, as he was very old and very famous. He had a thick Italian accent, which was charming, and we all tried to imitate it when he wasn't around. One day I was doing my rather poor imitation of the Maestro, and I said "aMoses you comma ear, sit close, you listen careful and I tell ayou errything ayou needa know". As I was finishing my "brilliant" imitation, I began to notice the Maestro standing right behind me, just listening...and smiling! He said, "you tink I asound like dat?" I was scared to death, it was all over for me...then he smiled again, and said, "at least you alisten, good boy!"
He was an amazing teacher and human being. I was devastated when he left the School, and I left there soon after. I did study with John Mohler, who took over for Alberto, for a year before leaving Michigan for NYC, but that's another story!
