Hi!
I have to go pick up a Leblanc paperclip BBb contrabass clarinet by air. I heard and read here that guitarists and many bass clarinetists cary their instrument in the cabin (without paying an extra seat). Now, a paperclip case isn't much bigger, so I am trying to figure out my chances.
Could someone give me the exact measurements of the papercip's original case please? And for those who carried a fairly big instrument on the airplane, what was the size of it?
Thanks!

I carried a baritone sax to the gate and did a 'gate check' several times, but that was before 9/11. I don't know if I'd be able to do it now.
Doing this 'gate check' you give them the clarinet at the gate before you board, tell them to put it in the pressusized cabin with the animals. And they will give it back to you upon landing.

I carried my bass onboard. I was prepared to gate check it, but the flight attendant said "nah, you can fit it in the cabinet." The cabinet where people hang their coats and such, that is. Dunno if a contra would fit as well, but the bass (a Selmer 67) fit in with plenty of room to spare.
