Some marvelous playing by Girko, a local San Antonio resident, when he recorded with the Dallas Symphony. Distinctive timbre, very appealing to my ears. Is he well-known? I hope so.

He is well known in the "orchestra world." Unfortunately, he is more well known for the manner of his departure from the Dallas Symphony. He is a beautiful player, and I've heard a good, tough teacher as well.

I have few of his recordings, including his recording of the Reinecke trios. Great player.

I remember the first time I heard him was on a recording of the Enesco Roumanian Rhapsody. I heard the opening and thought "Wow! Who is this!!?"

Steve is principal clarinet player for the Austin Symphony Orchestra. He lives in San Antonio, TX, but teaches and performs in Austin frequently. I've studied with him for eighteen months, and I find Steve to be an excellent teacher of our instrument, but only if the student is truly "serious" about his/her playing. Girko, in my opinion, is currently at the "top" of his career, and his playing continues to be masterful and musical. Steve is also the full-time clarinetist of Wild Basin Winds, a professional woodwind quintet in Austin, and he frequently plays as a guest artist with various groups nationwide. I would urge any BB members in Central Texas to avail themselves of any/every opportunity to hear Steve perform.

Enjoy your summer!
