this is an exceedingly stupid question, but what are the Fortes' made of? plastic, hard rubber? i've been searching the InterWeb and can't seem to find the answer.
would they make a good "outdoors" instrument for someone who doesn't want to subject her Buffet to the Iowa/Illinois weather patterns?
thanks all.

There have been a lot of discussions on the Forte here on the bboard, so you might do a search for Forte clarinet and read all about it. They are a good investment for the money.
I would say by experience of ownership that it is an excellent outdoor instrument. The Doctor is a regular on the board (the designer) and he'll probably kick some input into the discussion in a min. I believe it is hard rubber.

i have searched the board, but couldn't find a definitive answer as to what it is made of. it sounds like a good horn for the money though.
i'm considering one for an "outside" clarinet.

It would be ideal for an outdoor clarinet. I'm about 90% sure it's hard rubber. It's very well made and has very good intonation. If you buy one you might get it directly off the website from The Doctor himself.
Send him an email and ask. He's very nice to work with and doesn't mind your questions.

Well, I stand corrected. But, my advise to contact Dr. Henderson directly still is a good idea.

I have a Forte C clarinet.
It is made of wood. It is also very good.
A great deal for under $800 US.

The Forte' Bb and C clarinets are made by the Amati Instrument Co. in the Czech Republic to our specifications - a custom order. The Forte' Bb is made of ABS Plastic with nickel plated keywork. The Forte' C is made from Grenadilla wood with silver plated keywork. If you have any other questions email me off the BB.
