does anyone know if they are still in business? Phone line doesn't seem to work.... emails unanswered. It would be a great pity if they had closed down (apart from anything else, they are the only people who will mail stuff to you international US postal rather than expensive UPS)

If you're talking about Discount Reed Co. of Valencia CA, I guess they're still in business - I received some White Masters from them a few weeks ago.
It was my third shipment, ordered by email. I've not tried contacting them by phone recently.

Within the past 2-3 weeks I had an order not acknowledged, and then no reply to an email, so I really wonder if they are indeed still in business. So far, it appears that the big guy in South Bend is still up and running, so my order go there now.

Donald if you play on Vandoren reeds I would succest Dorn publication www.dornpub.com. If you order five boxes or more you get 20% off. I have ordered from them from Iceland and for five boxes I have to pay around 5-10$(I don't remember exact cost) for posting. But if I order from music123 I have to pay not less than 30$ for posting no matter if I only order one mouthpiece or a box of reeds.

I agree with cosmicjello. I've ordered reeds, strap, thumbrest, etc. from 1 Stop, mailed them a Money Order, and got my stuff about 8 days after mailing the order. Of course, if you ordered on-line with a credit card, that time would probably be cut to about 3 days.
Iceland clarinet, you might check with 1 Stop to see what their shipping cost would be to your location. There is something wrong with $30 to mail a small item such as a mouthpiece or box of reeds -- but, Ben over in Zurich has been hit with the same sort of charges, so I'm not knowledgeable about the reason for the high cost. I have never encountered such postage costs when I have mailed stuff to Europe. ??? :-( Eu

1Stop calculate the shipping cost by the value of the merchandise. For "lesser" orders, I paid only some 8$ - internationally, nota bene. So ordering reeds is indeed quite cheap.
WWBW & Friends charge you a minimum of 30$ on int'l orders, even if it's only a stick of cork grease.

I don't know how their prices compare with suppliers in the USA, but you might do want to look at http://www.reedsdirect.co.uk. Their international postal charges seem more moderate. Remember that their posted prices include 17.5% VAT, which you won't pay.
I buy reeds in very modest quantities (not being a Vandoren user, I don't have to throw most of them away) but have always found Reeds Direct very quick and reliable. Only drawback is they don't stock Gonzalez.
The other supplier I use is http://www.dawkes.co.uk, where I shop over-the-counter. I don't know what their international postal charges are like.

most of the woodwind specialist stores (ie Weiner/Muncy/formerly IMS) will not send international orders by "normal mail" but instead will only use UPS or similar courier services.
For instance, when i used to order Zinner Blanks from IMS i would have to pay between $30 and $40 US$ shipping on two or three mouthpieces, despite the fact that US Postal service would only charge $10 for the same service. I remember Weiner changed this policy, then went back to it (Weiner now have a $100 minimum for international orders- with Discount reeds you can just order 2 or three boxes, and the postage is often less than $10!!)

boy, i just looked at the Dorn website, what an awful site- i hope they didn't pay someone to design it, if they did they were ripped off. Either i am really stupid or there is no mention of shipping policy etc
i'll keep trying Discount reeds as they have served me well for more than 10 years.

i finally got to make an order with Ken at DR
glad they are still in business
don't really understand why none of my calls got through before- i call the US all the time and never have any problems.
DR have a very reasonable policy for international shipping, and for the non US people on the BB they are worth checking out
