Dear Friends
I am looking for the solo clarinet in Verdi's opera "La forza del destino". Other than the overture, where else are there big clarinet solos?I think there is one in the third act, but Im not sure where exactly.
Appreciate the help!
Michal.

There is the solo in the third act, but I don't know exactly where that is either.
The clarinet solo is printed on page 171 of Jack Brymer's book.

As I recall, there is a fine duet with Hoffman [himself !] in Offenbach's "Tales of H", a strange, but great, opera IMHO. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

Didn't JB Linear make the La Forza del Destino solo available online for the Sneezy.org contest some years ago?

Yes, it's in the third act - I want to say the 5th or 6th selection in the act.
There's also a nice solo in Tosca in the third act - 17th and 18th (reprise)selections (on most cd's).
Both are beautiful solos - wonderful to study for phrasing and style. I recently auditioned for an opera company, so these are fresh in my mind

The Andante from the 3rd act of La Forza was published for Bb Clarinet and a Piano reduction of the orchestration. It was edited and arranged by Ben Armato (Metropolitan Opera Orch.) and published by Carl Fischer. Catalogue #W2441.
I don't know if it's still in print

If you hunt around, you can find a link to the Los Angeles Opera's announcement of auditions for a clarinet position. They post a downloadable collection of mostly opera solos for the audtion. It's a great collection and includes the solos from Forza. Try using the search function here - I forget if it was posted to the bulletin board or the Klarinet list.

Listening to the opera would definitely answer your question. I haven't heard the complete opera myself, only the overture. As far as the difficult and important highlights of the clarinet part, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ben Armato's book: The Opera Clarinetist. It's in there.
Good Luck!

The famous Third Act solo from La Forza Del Destino is also found on the last page of David Hite's Artistic Studies - Book 3 - "From the Italian School" (Southern Music Co) ...GBK

There are also about 4 pages of excerpts from La Forza ..., including the Third Act solo, in Giampieri's "Passi Difficili e 'a Solo'" Vol. II.
Best regards,
