Hi, does anyone have any idea(s) about this concerto? Clicked on the the ad on the site and listened to the excerpts, sounds like a good piece but you really don't get a sense of the piece just by hearing a couple of samples. Does anyone know the soloist and could then possibly get parts or at least a copy of the solo part, i would be really interested in looking through it. Also does anyone know if it's been played outside the US?

On a related note: Some time ago there was a thread on "Viktor's Tale" from "The Terminal," the solo for clarinet and orchestra played by the late Emily Bernstein. It has now been published separate from the soundtrack music. Sheetmusicplus lists a conductor's score for $48 and (what appears to be) the solo and orchestra parts for $375. I've just gotta pipe in here with an almost unrelated gripe.
I purchased (Yes, paid money for) this concerto off the iTunes music store and it is EXTREMELY low quality. I thought the preview excerpt was low quality because it was streaming. The actual product is like this too!
Work of caution: don't waste your money.

I suggest you get in touch with David Blumberg, who has what I think is a better quality dub of the Zukovsky performance.

If it's the dub that he used to produce the original CD (which I have), I doubt it's any better than what Morrigan has. (See my message on the thread link GBK provided.)

It's a lovely piece, very difficult. The third movement especially. Michele gave me a copy of the clarinet part but (my quote is above and that is why) I cannot send out copies of it. That is her request.

I don't really understand why the soloist has the rights over this piece. I can understand why perhaps John Williams doesn't want it published, maybe he thinks that it doesn't compare to his other concertos, like the bassoon or tuba.
I've premiered concertos and in fact doing a world premier next year, just because i've played them and that my name maybe on the title page doesn't give me sole performing rights.
Why can't other players around the world be able to have a crack at this piece?

In the contract, there must be clause stating that the performer (Michele Zukovsky) has the right to perform the piece for the 10 years after its premiere or something like that. I've seen that done several times when my old wind ensemble would commission pieces. It's not unheard of. Once that expires I don't know.

I heard that piece thinking it was possibly part of his clarinet concerto, but for a piece of film music it certainly had me hooked on the piece, though I don't know if I could be all that bothered with the film.
Cheers for the info, Jack - if you do happen across the sheet music (piano reduction) do let us know.
