My own recent experience might be of some help. I was looking for exactly the same qualities that you are. I had a Vandoren B45, but wasn't totally happy with it because though I was happy with the sound, I found it hard to blow freely. I therefore went to a well-stocked music store and tried the 5RV, the B40, the B45 dot and the B45 lyre. The lyre was exactly what I was looking for. It has an open tip, and with VD 2 1/2 reeds it produces a rounded and big sound, but can also be played delicately. But I tried six different seemingly identical lyre models before deciding on one. They all played differently and some didn't suit me at all. You might find that having changed your mouthpiece, you might have to change the ligature as well. The Rovner performs well with my old B45 but sounds stuffy with the new mouthpiece.
