Does anybody know......

1. Who were the finalists in and winner of the 2005 competition at ClarinetFest in Tokyo this year?

2. What are the required pieces for the 2006 competition?

Thanks.

They should post the required pieces for '06 in the fall, probably October. I have no idea who won this year.

http://www.cl-fest2005.jp/e/info.html has the competition results.

http://www.clarinet.org/competitions/ might have the list of pieces someday.

I believe it was Alia Sabur who won. (This was the Rabaud Solo de Concours one, right?)

2005 HIGH SCHOOL SOLO COMPETITION
  Result
  1st prize:Dario Brignoli(Italy)
  2nd prize:Yuki Maeda(Japan)
  3rd prize:Makoto Yoshida(Japan)

I think you're thinking about the "Yamaha Young Artist Competition" that she won?

Well duh, it was held in Japan!! Remember, it's a competition to whomever can make it to the competition. If it were held in South America then you would probably see many South American finalists.

There are very good players everywhere - it's a matter of who can make it to the competition that will win it. If the ante were much higher, then it would have more diversity in the showings. Make the top price $25,000 and you would have entrants from all 4 corners of the globe.

like this one:

http://www.chopin.org/ ((btw - the winner of that is a monster!! I have many of his recordings.) $20K was the prize.

The finals were held at the hall my school's ensembles perform at- Gusman Theatre. Mei-Ting wasn't the favourite of the pianists from my school at all, but to be in the competition at all you have to be a beast.
