My teacher just gave me this piece by Marc Delmas - Fantaisie Italienne. She says it's a famous piece and is a great one, but I've never heard of it or heard it. It certainly looks like an interesting piece, reminded me of Premiere Rhapsodie by first looks.
I've searched the BBoards but found nothing of significance.
Anyone have any information on this piece? Also, anyone know where I could find a recording(s)? Online or CD(s)?

I played it on one of my student recitals way back in college. I recall that it was fun--think that I still might have it. I'll take a look.........

When I was just starting out as a Clarinet player (7th grade as that's when my school district started band) I used to call up the local Classical station asking them to play for their requests show pieces which were in some of the books that I had.
Trouble was that most of those works (especially the stubbins book) weren't recorded or at least any recordings typically weren't in the library of a classical radio station.
They had pieces such as the weber, etc. but sure didn't have the Delmas!

It may be obscure but there's a lot to learn from it and it isn't easy. I absoloutely love this piece, it's great!

Cahuzac plays it on his "Masters of the Clarinet" cd. Not the best recording quality (recorded in the 20s, I believe), but very informative nonetheless.

I think it certainly should be more popular, it's good stylistic preparation for Premiere Rhapsody.

Ooops!! The "Fantaisie Italienne" that I played in college was the one by Eugene Bozza, not Marc Delmas as per the original post. Sorry.
However, the Bozza "FI" is a great little work for *clarinette et piano*, opening with a cadenza, progressing with a short, lyrical melody and concluding with a rhythmic, upbeat showcase for your technical abilitiy in concert A. Fun to play and fun for the audience to hear--a good contrasting piece for a recital of otherwise serious music.

I love Bozza's FI - unfortunately, my teacher was more fond of Claribel...which is still very cool, but when you have throat issues as a college Freshman - its the scariest piece to play on your jury...
Players don't talk about Bozza much, but he wrote some finger tying licks.
