Does anyone know if International Music Co. still publishes the <i>Orchestral Excerpts from Symphonic Repertoire for clarinet</i>? There's 4 volumes.
Thanks,
Contragirl

GBK -

There WERE 8 International volumes, 1-4 by McGinnis and 5-8 by Drucker. International had to withdraw the Drucker volumes because they couldn't clear the copyrights. However, Sheet Music Plus says they stock vol. 5 and 7, as well as 1-4. http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_recommendations.html?sku=IM.2391&cart=33254137434246750&searchtitle=&type=rec&counter=1

Drucker volumes 6 and 8 are available from time to time on the auction sites and from used music sites, but usually at high prices.

The McGinnis volumes contain very short excerpts and have many typographical errors. Contragirl will probably do better with The Orchestral Musician's CD-ROM Library on, now, 5 CDs, which contain complete parts. See http://www.vcisinc.com.

Ken...

I guess I should have qualified my first response.

Yes, I know about the GATT agreement as related to the International orchestral excerpts and have written about it a few times:

http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=148219&t=148197

http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=101951&t=101945

However, the Drucker set (volumes 5-8) does appear frequently on Sheet Music Plus as well as auction sites.

Frankly, with all the typos and errors in the complete series, I wouldn't bother with them at all. Aside from the works of the former Soviet and Eastern block composers which are rental only, most of the other works are available elsewhere...GBK

i agree with all, just get the CD-roms that are available now. they're great! i have all 8 volumes of the international, but i don't even look at them anymore. like GBK said, there are a few that aren't available on the CD-roms, like the Kodaly "Dances..." with 1st and 2nd clarinet parts, but for the most part just get the CD-roms; they're totally worth it.

I recommend the set wholeheartedly, however if you are planning an audion it also helps to have the full orchestral part for any serious big audition as some tutti passages are also asked for too! There are also a few typographical errors in the internation Editiion set to be wary of!

I only ask about the books because I like having my music in hard copy. I wouldn't want to have to print it from a CD, or I would never use it!
