Is anyone out there using a Gale mouthpiece? Not the Bay/Gale mouthpiece--just Gale. I just bought one and wonder about them. I've never tried one (imagine that--I've tried hundreds and must have just missed this one).

I believe Gale concentrated on sax mouthpieces, so I haven't seen too many of the clarinet variety nor do I know of anyone who plays one (but no doubt somebody does).

Hear wonderful things about Greg Smith though never played one. I love Ralph Morgan's Symphonic mpcs and, for greater projection and slightly more purity , Charles Bay's Modele de Triomphe.

Dear Brenda; The Gale and the Bay-Gale (I think both if I remember) have a really high baffle. I had a couple. They had power. Glass mouthpieces have the high baffle too, or course. Sincerely, Ken Mills

What do you mean by "high baffle"? All the 'glass' mouthpieces I've seen (Pomarico, GG, Selmer Clarion, Vandoren, O'Brien) had standard, classical-style 'deep' baffles. Please elaborate...............

Dear David; High baffle meant that that area in the tip does not go very deep. Remember the Selmer C95? It was a monster deep baffle that has a tremedous volume area directly behind the window. The Gale is shallow and it is long down down to the top of the bore. The C95 had a curve that was "long" or not very severe unlike the C85. The latter comes on their clarinets with a #2 reed (brand?) even though the tip is only 1.05mm. Yikes, a soft reed on a relatively close facing. The C95 (1.31mm) on the other hand takes a Marca #2 as does the Vandoran B45 Lyre (their second most open mpc). The long facing will be more reed friendly, you just blow harder with a harder reed, what I like for outdoors. More Power to You, Ken
