okay....posted about my want for a sax......I have worked a trade with Bob A.....my exceptional Boosey 2-20 for his CONN stencil C melody. Now....the neck on the sax appears to be tenor not alto. So....He's sending the sax with original MPC and another after market...E Anello believe.....Well....
is this a tenor "C".......or....?.......should I get tenor reeds......and stuff relating to tenor? MPC etc.? Or is it as I hear that C melodies are a different animal and require specialized accesories?
Anyway..I'm thrilled with the trade.....BA and I have developed a rapport that will last longer than either the sax or clarinet.....

You can use tenor or alto or C-mel mp's on a C-mel. Alto mp's may not be in tune, may be sharp unless pulled way out which will cause the low notes to "gurgle". C-mel mp's, both modern and vintage, may sound terrible. I use a Brillhart #3 Ebolin tenor mp on my Conn straight neck (i.e., alto-style neck) with some stretch adhesive tape wrapped around the base of the cork so the mp isn't loose. I believe the Brillhart #3 is what is referred to as a "short-shank" tenor mp; at least it is a quarter inch shorter than a Meyer tenor mp I also have. I think it plays in tune with a nice, rich tone. Just because this is my set-up doesn't mean it should be yours. You need to experiment to see what plays best. Some people do really well with alto mp's. The horn, regardless of neck style or mp you use is always a tenor; that's its range. Check out http://boards.eesite.com/board.cgi?boardset=cmelody. Since I play on a tenor mp I use tenor reeds; in my case, a Java #3 seems to work best.
